Vaillant who had been involved in a car accident
earlier in the week was feeling some aches and pains from the incident
brought in Bullock the 1999 series champion and two-time clay cup
nationals winner to pilot the #3 Spiderman team car for the race.
After winning his heat race and with a four-car
invert Bullock started the main on the pole and never surrendered the
lead taking the second main event victory for the Spiderman car this
season.
Bullock who races the Sportsman Sprint Series at
Skagit Speedway on Saturday nights said, “I guess Kiel’s hurting just
a little. They let me in here, they have a great car it was just
flying, all I had to do was drive.” Bullock continues, “This was a fun
race, guess it’s always fun when you win.”
With a qualifying lap of 10.81 seconds Brock
Lemley, of Deming had fast time for the night and brought home his #10
machine in second position.
After taking the checkered flag Lemley’s car came
to a precarious stop nose first against the inside wall on the front
straight. Lemley commented, “I lost oil pressure during the race and
wanted to get the car shut down as fast as possible."
With a grin Lemley continues, "The wall seemed to
be an out of the way place to stop.”
In
the 250 division Ben Hogarth the 2001 Clay Cup Nationals and 250
division track champion started on the pole in the twenty-five lap
main and never looked back.
Hogarth took charge and led every lap of the
race. Track announcer Bill Moeller commented, “Putting Hogarth on the
pole is like putting a fox in the hen house.”
Bringing home his third win of the young 2002
season Hogarth said, “Talking with the guys before we went out, I said
if we can’t win from here we’ve got something wrong.”
“These guys gave me a great car with the right
set up all I have to do is drive it. It was an easy car to drive
tonight and the track was in great shape, we came out on top.”
Qualifying with an 11.02 lap, Paul Taylor set
fast time in the 250 division. Taylor would finish in fifth position.
Notes of interest:
In the 1200 division teams have a fuel option of
gas or methanol. Methanol provides greater horsepower at the higher
risk of engine failure, and increased engine maintenance.
Of the eighteen 1200 sprints entered, ten cars
raced with gas while eight raced with methanol.
With five races on the season three have been won
by gas-powered machines, with two wins by methanol-powered machines.
Aaron Fell, the 2001 Deming champion raced the
#57 car of Ozzie McGee for a third place finish. Fell is now a regular
in the prestigious 410 division at Skagit Speedway.
