“The Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series is our premier series in the
Pacific Northwest. It goes without saying that we’re extremely pleased
to make this announcement,” said NASCAR director of series marketing
Steve O’Donnell. “These teams are being showcased on national
television for the first time and this will certainly enhance team and
track sponsorship programs across the entire series.”
The NAPA 150 marks the series’ fifth visit to Magic Valley Speedway, a
third-mile oval. Gary Lewis, of Bothell, Wash., won the last Raybestos
Brakes Northwest Series race held there in 2000. The series has raced
at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval every year since 1988. Defending
series champion Kevin Hamlin, of Snohomish, Wash., won two out of
three series’ races held there in 2001 and again in the series most
recent visit to the quarter-mile oval on May 25.
Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval is owned by one of the series’ best
drivers – Garrett Evans of Ardenvoir, Wash. Evans is a four-time
series champion and the series’ all-time win leader with 47 victories
since 1985.
Notable alumni from the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series include Greg
Biffle, of Vancouver, Wash., the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
champion and 2001 NASCAR Busch Series rookie of the year. Biffle
competed in the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series in 1997.
