This 200 lap race features the West Coasts
best NASCAR drivers in race cars that are very similar to NASCAR top division
Winston Cup.
2000 Winston West Champion, Brendan Gaughan
from Las Vegas, will be racing his 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Brendan is a
former basketball player for George Town University and is the son of Las
Vegas Hotel Casino owner Michael Gaughan.
Erik Norris, film director and son of Texas
Walker Chuck Norris, will be making his second appearance at Evergreen
Speedway. Last year Erik finished 15th
and he is currently 4th in point standings for the 2001 season.
Northwest legend and one of NASCAR's 50
greatest driver, 73 year old Hershel McGriff will be returning to Evergreen
Speedway as a teammate of Brendan Gaughan driving for Orleans racing. Hershel
began racing stock cars in 1945. He won the 1950 Mexican Road Race and the
1986 Winston West Championship. He is the oldest competitor on the Winston
West Series and has 35 victories.
The COORS Light 200 will begin at
approximately 8:30 Saturday night preceded by the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series
Super Stocks who compete at Evergreen every Saturday night.
Gates open at 3:30pm with
qualifying starting at 4:30pm with racing at 7:00pm.
