Kanke wins the Coors Light "125" at Cajon

El Cajon, Calif. (March 23, 2002) M.K. Kanke of Frazier Park, Calif. completed his comeback by winning the Coors Light "125" at Cajon Speedway Saturday Night. Kanke pasted leader Burney Lamar on the last lap to win race number two for the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring division.

The win was Kanke's 19th career victory and third on the tough 3/8-mile paved oval East of San Diego, Calif. Lamar led 124 laps before over driving the car into turn one, allowing the veteran Kanke to make a move on the inside. The pair raced side-by-side into turn three where Kanke pulled the advantage and crossed the line .125 seconds ahead of Lamar.

"This win is for the guys as they have worked real hard and waited a long time to get back to racing," Kanke said. Lamar finished second, with Frank Maronski Jr. finishing in third. Former Winston West Series Champion Sean Woodside finished in the fourth position with Rookie-of-the-Year contender Brandon Whitt of El Cajon rounding out the top five.

Lamar heads the point standings over Eddy McKean going into the third event of the season at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. Saturday, April 6, 2002. The MMR event will be the second televised race for the Featherlite Southwest Series which will air on Monday, April 15, 2002 at 8pm EST.
