Lamar had led
the first 108 laps from pole position after winning his series leading
third Bud Pole Award of the season. Lamar would finish in the 19th
position after loosing two laps in the pits. Following Holmes to the
finish were Kenny Shepherd in second, Featherlite Southwest Series
point leader Eddy McKean in third, with Jim Pettit II, and David
Gilliland rounding out the top five.
Lamar led the most laps(108) to collect the Gatorade Front Runner
Award for the fourth time this season, and Brandon Whitt received
Rookie-of-the-Race honors with an 11th place finish. The race took
just 54 minutes/13 seconds to complete at an average speed of 83.000
mph. There were three caution periods for 14-laps, and 26 out of the
30 cars that started the event were running at the end.
Eddy McKean lengthened his point lead over M.K. Kanke, with Doug
McCoun vaulting into third overall after a seventh place finish. Lamar
maintains the fourth position, with Frank Maronski Jr. moving into the
top five. Sean Woodside who was in second place in the standings going
into the event missed the race after he suffered a broken ankle during
the week that required surgery to repair. He is expected to be out 4-6
weeks.
The next event for the for the Featherlite Southwest Series if next
Saturday, July 27 at the third-mile banked oval of Madera Speedway in
Madera, Calif. Last years race was won by Eric Holmes who achieved his
first career victory after several runner-up finishes.
