Lamar  Takes first career WIN at Madera Speedway
in the Featherlite Southwest Series

Madera, Calif.. (July 27, 2002) Burney Lamar of West Sacramento, Calif. made it ten different winners in ten races this season in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring division. Lamar led 121 of 125-laps in route to his first career series victory worth more then $5100 and led the most laps for the fifth time this season.

Lamar took the top spot ahead of Featherlite southwest Series point leader Eddy McKean, who started the event in the 16th position. McKean scored his fifth top-five finish of the season
and lengthened his point lead to 89 markers ahead of M.K. Kanke who finished third. Eric Holmes and Steve Belletto rounded out the top five finishers.

Steve Belletto grabbed his first career Bud Pole Award earlier in the evening with a quick lap of 14.389 seconds/83.314 mph and started the event in the sixth position due to the 6-car invert. Belletto also collected Rookie-of-the-Race honors for the fifth time this season and closed the gap on Rookie point leader Brandon Whitt to within five points. Eddy McKean maintains the point lead ahead of M.K. Kanke, with Burney Lamar moving back into the third position after the victory. Doug McCoun holds down the fourth position with Todd Souza rolling back into the top-five.

The race took 37 minutes and 36 seconds to complete (new race record) and had only two caution periods lasting 15-laps. The Featherlite Southwest Series drivers will take one week off before returning to the ultra-fast marquee speedplant of Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, Calif. on Saturday, August 10 for a 150-lap clash.
