More than $350,000 in post-season awards will be distributed at the
gala event, which will celebrate the 49th season of the West’s oldest
stock car racing circuit.
This event will mark the first time in series’ history that the awards
ceremony will he held at The Orleans, which has been a popular
supporter of the series through sponsorship of events and involvement
with race teams. The Orleans Hotel and Casino offers 840 luxurious
rooms, along with a 40,000 square-foot convention center. The awards
ceremony will be held in The Orleans Showroom.
Past series champions include Brendan Gaughan, Kevin Harvick, Rick
Carelli, Chad Little, Hershel McGriff and Ron Hornaday Jr. Winston’s
involvement with the NASCAR Winston West Series began in 1971. The
initial Winston West point fund totaled $10,000 that first season but
has grown to over $350,000 for 2002. Since 1971, Winston has awarded
more than $1.9 million in point awards to NASCAR Winston West Series
competitors.
In addition to the series championship and point fund awards, the
NASCAR Winston West Series awards ceremony will honor special award
winners including the Gatorade Front Runner Award, Bud Pole Award,
Stage 8 Rookie of the Year, Featherlite Trailers Award, 76 Gasoline
Award, Most Popular Driver and special awards from Hoosier Tire.
